<gc:summary type="string">Come, sit, stay for a cocktail-hour that’s going to the dogs…and to the cats! Now, during Houston’s dog-days of summer, experience truly unique specialty cocktails while helping Special Pals animal shelter provide temporary housing and healthcare to homeless dogs and cats. As you enjoy a sampling from this collection of unique, hand-crafted cocktails in the Hilton Americas-Houston’s Lobby Bar, you’ll be making the world a better place by helping homeless puppies and kitties awaiting their forever-homes…and you won’t even need a doggie-bag!

Half of the proceeds from the sale of each of these specialty cocktail collection drinks will be donated to Special Pals, a Houston area non-profit, limited-intake, no-kill animal shelter. The shelter, home to approximately 100 dogs and cats, has been helping homeless and abandoned animals in the Greater Houston area for over 20 years and relies on donations and volunteer support, along with funds generated by special events. As you enjoy a beverage from this delightful cocktail collection available in the Lobby Bar, you will be contributing toward the animals’ medical expenses and helping to provide much needed repairs to the Special Pals animal shelter.

Created especially for this event, cocktails include “Cat Nip, the Purrrrfect Martini” and “Bull Dog” a cocktail made with Red Bull. As you sip one of these delicious beverages you can snack on the bar mix of “Kibbles & Bits” and enjoy light appetizers from the bar. Or, if a tamer, virgin cocktail is more to your liking, a “Spayed/Neutered Daiquiri” and “Spayed/Neutered Colada” are available.

Now, through the end of the year, come in and enjoy one of these delicious cocktails and make a difference in the lives of deserving dogs and cats</gc:summary>

<gc:summary type="string">The English writer Samuel Johnson described man as a "Cooking Animal." For most of us food is more than fuel for our bodies. What we choose to eat depends upon our family traditions, ethnic heritage, and regional customs. Whom we choose to eat with defines our circle of family and friends. The fascinating traveling exhibit, "What's Cookin'? Two Centuries of American Foodways," on view October 7, 2008 – January 24, 2009 in The Heritage Society Museum discusses these food related issues.

Illustrating these topics are photographs, documents, and such actual artifacts as a turn of the 20th century ice cream mold, a fruit jar wrench patented in 1903, an early 20th century silver plated oyster fork, a 1940s cornmeal bag, and several classic food advertisements. See photographs of vintage Houston grocery stores and restaurants, menus and uniforms from favorite local eateries, and an outstanding collection of Houston cookbooks.

The exhibit includes two hands on activities. Visitors can examine several "gadgets of yesteryear" and try to figure out what they were used for. There are also a number of recipe pages from cookbooks; visitors can use clues in the recipes to determine in what year the cookbook may have been published.

The exhibit was developed by the Rogers Historical Museum, Rogers, Arkansas, and supported in part by a grant from the Historical Resources and Museums Services section of Arkansas State Parks in the Department of Parks and Tourism.

This exhibit is made possible with support from the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance.

OPERATION CARE DROP

IBC Bank and H-E-B have initiated Operation Care Drop to support our nation&#8217;s troops. Thirty-five IBC Bank branches in the greater Houston-area are serving as drop-off stations for care package supplies from Nov. 11 through Sunday, Nov. 30. More than 130 branches across IBC&#8217;s branch network in Texas are participating in the donation drive. <br>The community can support Operation Care Drop by: 1) purchasing pre-made care packages at participating H-E-Bs or by purchasing travel-sized supplies and treats capable of fitting inside a quart-sized plastic bag and placing them in the &#8220;Drop Zone&#8221; at any IBC Bank branch; and 2) writing a letter of support or thanks to a soldier. Additional details can be obtained at a local IBC Bank branch. <br>To help pack and ship the goods overseas to servicemen and women, IBC and H-E-B will work with Operation Interdependence&#174;, the premier Civilian-to-Military Delivery System&#174; in the U.S.

Word of Restoration Christian Fellowship

Pastor Charles E. Perry, Jr. and Word of Restoration Christian Fellowship are currently holding two Sunday Services at 8AM and 10AM and one Wednesday Night Bible Study at 7:30PM in a leased facility located at 15002 Highway 6 (across from Savannah Subdivision) and will be moving into the new facility in November of this of year. <br><br>&#8220;We are Taking Kingdom Authority in 2008 and You Ain&#8217;t Seen Nothing Yet,&#8221; Pastor Charles E. Perry Jr. and Word of Restoration Christian Fellowship (WRCF) have started construction and have plans to build The City of Restoration for residence of the Arcola-Fresno-Rosharon area. <br><br>What makes WRCF so unique is their ability to provide five star ministry to their visitors and members in a rural area and that Pastor Perry and Charlette are very approachable and accessible to their members despite their growth. Another uniqueness of the ministry is that it unifies people of all social backgrounds. People gather here to worship and serve God, from &#8220;Who&#8217;s Who&#8221; to &#8220;Who are You!&#8221; CEO&#8217;s, janitors, attorneys, warehouse workers, educators, truck drivers and professional athletes find restoration and refreshing because all we&#8217;ll ever be in God&#8217;s House are servants. We may not understand it but God loves it because that&#8217;s what His Kingdom is all about.&#8221;<br><br>Pastor Charles E. Perry Jr. and the Word of Restoration Christian Fellowship are going places fast. In December of last year, construction began on The City of Restoration Phase I. This facility on the 44 acres will house a 1,200 seat worship sanctuary, staff administrative wing, Royal Priesthood Children&#8217;s Ministry, and a Grand Ballroom Reception Area that will be available to the community for rental for special occasions. Other things the community can expect from WRCF are a Restoration Fitness Center, Restoration Retreat Center, a Business Owner&#8217;s Network, and a Center for the Elderly.<br><br>As the church members frequently state, &#8220;Remember, at the place of restoration and refreshing, we are Restoring Lives with the Word of God and being here is like a breath of fresh air. And when your life is restored, You Shall Have Double!&#8221; <br><br>For more information on The City Of Restoration, Word of Restoration Christian Fellowship Church and Senior Pastor Charles E. Perry, Jr., call (281) 431-5930 or visit the website.

The Gifts of Christmas: An Evening of Two One-Act Plays

&quot;O. Henry's Gift of the Magi&quot; is the story of the real spirit of Christmas. A young couple, spending their first Christmas together, are discouraged to find themselves too impoverished to buy each other gifts. When they cannot stretch their pennies far enough, each must face personal sacrifice to purchase the other a special gift.<br><br>The Foster Father is a funny and tender look at a young Jewish carpenter named Yosef, in love with a beautiful young maiden, Miriam. His life is suddenly turned upside down when God calls him to be the &quot;foster father&quot; of His only begotten Son in this one-act play, which adds an element of contemporary humor to tell the story of Christ's birth from Joseph's point of view.
