Workshop: Found Poetry with Michelle Sharp

Found poetry, also known as blackout poetry, is the process of creating poems by marking out words from recycled book pages. Participants can look for creative meaning in this subtractive process, editing down a passage into something new. Many of the resulting poems are also visual art pieces in themselves, using the redacted words as shape and form. Join us for this unique intersection of creative writing and visual process art!

More info: mulvacenter.org…

They have also appeared at Sunset Theater in Elm Grove, South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center, Waukesha Civic Theatre, and Vogel Hall at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.

Elizabeth Novacek (soprano) has always had a particular fondness for the music, fashion, and films of the 1940s, and she is delighted to be able to share her love for the Great American Songbook by performing with the Radio Rosies. Elizabeth has appeared locally in musicals such as My Fair Lady, State Fair, and Oklahoma! She has also sung at the Basilica of St. Josaphat and at St. Stanislaus in Milwaukee, where she routinely has had the pleasure of singing with instrumentalists from the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, both in a choral setting and as a soloist. She is an award-winning visual artist and enjoys drawing and painting in a wide variety of media. She remains grateful as always to her parents, to her fellow Rosies and instrumentalists, and to our audience for appreciating this music with us!

Heather Blachowski (mezzo-soprano) – Heather is a classically trained dancer and studies with companies such as Milwaukee Ballet and Danceworks. She has been performing in area musical theater productions since high school, most recently in Mamma Mia! with Forte Theatre Company. Fabian always enjoys getting to make more of this music with The Radio Rosies and the jazz trio Jive Safely. When he's not doing this, he keeps busy as the Director of Sacred Music at St. Stanislaus Oratory in Milwaukee and as a private music instructor. His background also includes staff conducting positions with the Sheboygan Symphony, teaching voice at Lakeland University, and earning an M.M. from UW-Madison (voice) and a B.A. from Lakeland (voice, viola).

Thomas Pibal (drums) - Thomas Pibal eats, breathes, and lives music, although sometimes he eats bacon and breathes air, too. This workshop is designed specifically for beginners and requires no prior experience.

Participants will be guided step-by-step through the process of assembling their design, learning foundational stained-glass techniques such as layout, foiling, and finishing. Each guest will leave with a completed decorative stained-glass piece suitable for display.

This workshop offers a unique, creative experience that feels both artistic and elevated, making it especially appealing for adult participants seeking something different from traditional art classes. With guided instruction and flexible pacing, it is also adaptable for individuals with special needs, allowing participants to engage comfortably and confidently.

Important: Stained glass involves the use of heated tools and potentially sharp materials.
