Art Exhibit: New Works by Ocean County Artist Guild (2nd Floor Gallery)

Toms River Branch The Ocean County Library is pleased to announce that it will host, New Works, a month-long exhibit by Ocean County Artists’ Guild.The collection, which will be displayed in the Toms River Branch’s 2nd Floor Gallery during October. The Ocean County Artists’ Guild is a non-profit organization working to promote the arts in Ocean County drawing in artists and patrons from around the region. Their mission is to serve the artists and community: to provide and outlet and training for artistic talent, to enhance the quality of life for the residents and thereby attract newcomers, and to provide an attraction to draw tourists to the community. Art Exhibit: The Early American Swedish Colonial brought by Erik Burro (McConnell Gallery)

Toms River Branch The Ocean County Library is pleased to announce that it will host The Early American Swedish Colonial Exhibit, a month-long exhibit brought by history advocate Erik Burro, founder of Pennjerdel House. The collection, which will be displayed in the McConnell Gallery during October, consists of free standing panels depicting the history of the New Sweden colony in southern New Jersey. The exhibit was created by the New Sweden Center in Wilmington, Delaware and the Swedish American History Museum in Philadelphia to commemorate the 375th anniversary of the New Sweden Colony. On behalf of the Kingdom of Sweden, former Dutch governor of New Amsterdam, Peter Minuit, made land and trading arrangements with the Lenni Lenape to create the New Sweden colony along the banks of the Christina River in Delaware in 1638. Five years later a new fort was built along the Delaware River near what is now Salem, New Jersey. Fort Nya Elfborg was referred to as Fort Mosquito by the soldiers on guard. Beach Haven Book

Long Beach Island Branch Presented by authors Gretchen Coyle and Deb Whitcraft, they will discuss their book, Beach Haven. Residents of Beach Haven for decades, their book is the only one to be written solely about their home town.  Beach Haven, founded in 1874, was designed as one of the first seashore resorts in New Jersey.  It had two fancy hotels, the Engleside and the Baldwin, a boardwalk, and a steamboat that once connected to the mainland town of Tuckerton.  Large catboats sailed Little Egg Harbor Bay.  Adults dressed formally but changed to wool bathing costumes for time on the beach. Enthusiastic and popular speakers, Gretchen and Deb speak frequently about New Jersey from New York to Havana.  All photographs are from the New Jersey Maritime Museum collection. Art Exhibit: The Early American Swedish Colonial brought by Erik Burro (McConnell Gallery)

Toms River Branch The Ocean County Library is pleased to announce that it will host The Early American Swedish Colonial Exhibit, a month-long exhibit brought by history advocate Erik Burro, founder of Pennjerdel House. The collection, which will be displayed in the McConnell Gallery during October, consists of free standing panels depicting the history of the New Sweden colony in southern New Jersey. The exhibit was created by the New Sweden Center in Wilmington, Delaware and the Swedish American History Museum in Philadelphia to commemorate the 375th anniversary of the New Sweden Colony. On behalf of the Kingdom of Sweden, former Dutch governor of New Amsterdam, Peter Minuit, made land and trading arrangements with the Lenni Lenape to create the New Sweden colony along the banks of the Christina River in Delaware in 1638. Five years later a new fort was built along the Delaware River near what is now Salem, New Jersey. Fort Nya Elfborg was referred to as Fort Mosquito by the soldiers on guard. Art Exhibit: The Early American Swedish Colonial brought by Erik Burro (McConnell Gallery)

Toms River Branch The Ocean County Library is pleased to announce that it will host The Early American Swedish Colonial Exhibit, a month-long exhibit brought by history advocate Erik Burro, founder of Pennjerdel House. The collection, which will be displayed in the McConnell Gallery during October, consists of free standing panels depicting the history of the New Sweden colony in southern New Jersey. The exhibit was created by the New Sweden Center in Wilmington, Delaware and the Swedish American History Museum in Philadelphia to commemorate the 375th anniversary of the New Sweden Colony. On behalf of the Kingdom of Sweden, former Dutch governor of New Amsterdam, Peter Minuit, made land and trading arrangements with the Lenni Lenape to create the New Sweden colony along the banks of the Christina River in Delaware in 1638. Five years later a new fort was built along the Delaware River near what is now Salem, New Jersey. Fort Nya Elfborg was referred to as Fort Mosquito by the soldiers on guard. The collection, which will be displayed in the McConnell Gallery during October, consists of free standing panels depicting the history of the New Sweden colony in southern New Jersey. The exhibit was created by the New Sweden Center in Wilmington, Delaware and the Swedish American History Museum in Philadelphia to commemorate the 375th anniversary of the New Sweden Colony. On behalf of the Kingdom of Sweden, former Dutch governor of New Amsterdam, Peter Minuit, made land and trading arrangements with the Lenni Lenape to create the New Sweden colony along the banks of the Christina River in Delaware in 1638.
